One of my favorite books of 2008 was The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I had known about it for awhile (my friend M recommended it to me a few years ago), but didn’t get around to reading it until last year. And I fell in love with it, and Zafon’s writing. So I was quite excited when I heard that his next book, The Angel’s Game, was going to be translated into English and released in the States this year. I was even more excited when I received an ARC of the book a month or so ago. I know a lot of bloggers have received ARCs of the book, but I also know that there are plenty of people who haven’t. So, my next giveaway is going to be The Angel’s Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, which will be released on Tuesday.
The Angel’s Game:
“The whole of Barcelona stretched out at my feet and I wanted to believe that, when I opened those windows, its streets would whisper stories to me, secrets I could capture on paper and narrate to whomever cared to listen…”
In an abandoned mansion at the heart of Barcelona, a young man, David Martín, makes his living by writing sensationalist novels under a pseudonym. The survivor of a troubled childhood, he has taken refuge in the world of books and spends his nights spinning baroque tales about the city’s underworld. But perhaps his dark imaginings are not as strange as they seem, for in a locked room deep within the house lie photographs and letters hinting at the mysterious death of the previous owner.
Like a slow poison, the history of the place seeps into his bones as he struggles with an impossible love. Close to despair, David receives a letter from a reclusive French editor, Andreas Corelli, who makes him the offer of a lifetime. He is to write a book unlike anything that has ever existed–a book with the power to change hearts and minds. In return, he will receive a fortune, and perhaps more. But as David begins the work, he realizes that there is a connection between his haunting book and the shadows that surround his home.

Here are the rules for this giveaway:
1. This contest is only open to residents of the United States.
2. This contest is open from now until next Saturday, June 20th at 10 pm Pacific. I will be announcing the winner on Sunday, June 21.
3. To enter, please leave a comment on this post. I would love you for sharing this giveaway on Twitter or your blog, but I will not be providing additional entries for doing so in this giveaway. I did that in the Diana Peterfreund giveaway, and it was pretty difficult to keep track of when you consider the sheer number of entries, as well as my work schedule and my Summer Reading Blitz efforts.
4. As a bonus, if you have not yet read The Shadow of the Wind, please include that in your comment. I will also send you a trade paperback of The Shadow of the Wind. If you are the winner and do not wish to receive a copy of The Shadow of the Wind, I will instead include a $15 gift card to Barnes & Noble, Borders, or Amazon (your choice).
