Saw this article (from March) and thought it would make a good BTT confessional question:
Two-thirds of Brits have lied about reading books they haven’t. Have you? Why? What book?
I’ve been thinking about this for an hour or so, and it took me the full hour to come up with a book I may have lied about reading. But I’ve thought of one: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. I spent three or four years of my life lying about having read it as a summer reading assignment for Honors English before my junior year of high school. I didn’t read it then, but it was subsequently assigned in two different college literature classes, so I have read it since then.
When I lied and said I’d read it, I said at the time that I didn’t much care for it. Well, it turns out I wasn’t lying about that part. Now that I have read it, I still don’t like it. I don’t care for Twain’s style.
What about you? Are there any books you’ve faked reading? For more Booking Through Thursday responses, or to take part in the fun, click on the image at the top of this post.
