Another October and another Read-a-thon survived. I hope those of you that participated enjoyed it as much as I did. I managed to stay awake until 5 a.m. and actually finished a third book. So I managed to complete 3 books: Bad Marie by Marcy Dermansky, Life After Yes by Aidan Donnelly Rowley, and Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Paris by Paul Gallico, for a total of 709 pages. Though all three books were different, I enjoyed them all. I think I might have enjoyed Mrs. ‘Arris most of all because of the unfailing optimism of the titular Mrs. Harris.
On the whole, I wish I had spent a little more time reading and a little less time sidetracked by other distractions and headaches. But three books read is a success.
For next April, I am planning to donate $.10 for every page read to charity, but I haven’t determined yet which one. So I will spend some time over the course of the next six months looking into charities and trying to determine where I want to donate. In the past, I have made donations to Room to Read, and I like donating to them, but I know there are tons of charities out there who could also use some support. So I will be looking into that quite a bit in the next few months.
On the whole, this is turning out to be quite the lazy Sunday. I’ve got the washer going, because I *always* have laundry, and even though you’d think my eyes would want a break after the readathon, I am trying to decide whether to spend the rest of my afternoon reading or clearing some things off my DVR. Maybe the DVR- I didn’t watch much TV this past week, and I need to make room for the shows I’ll want to record this week. At the same time, though, the books I didn’t get to yesterday are calling my name.
Have a great Sunday.
