Introductory Questionnaire

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Roseville, California (northeast of Sacramento)
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? After a discussion on Twitter last night with Vasilly and Andi, The Housekeeper and The Professor
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Wedding cake (I’ll be taking a midday break to attend a wedding)
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I’m a longtime Readathon participant (since October 2008) whose back after taking April off. I’m also in the middle of the most epic blogging slump on the planet. My coreaders today are Miggy and Stella, both of whom are looking at me like I’m crazy, and both of whom think that because I’m up, I should be feeding them, even if they never get fed at this hour. Silly kitties.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, whatโ€™s one thing youโ€™ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? For the first time, I’m going to use the stopwatch feature on my phone to more accurately track my time. Usually by hour 4 or 5, I’m like, “eh, I think I read for 20 minutes without looking up. So we’ll see how that goes.

I got off to a slow start- partially doing the Introductory Questionnaire, and partially because I poured myself a cup of coffee, only to find the filter had fallen over while it was brewing and so my pot was filled with coffee grounds. Gross. The good news is that I have a new, grounds-free pot of coffee, and hopefully this hour will go much more smoothly.

Nothing new to report. I am really enjoying The Language of Flowers so far and can’t wait to see what happens as the book goes on. But for now, a brief break for bagels.

Still trucking along with The Language of Flowers. My reading speed pickedย  up a bit, which is good. I think this next hour will mostly be spent reading. Seems like I did a lot of non-reading things the first few hours, since I really only spent half that time reading.

Notes from Last Hour

The amount of time I’m spending reading is slowly inching up, which is good. I’m a little over halfway through The Language of Flowers, and I have a feeling I’m nearly to the point where I will start getting answers to some of my questions. It’s a lovely story, though, and I’m enjoying it immensely. I have a feeling hour 5 will not be as productive for me. My roommate is awake now, and her best friend is coming over sometime in the next hour to pick her up for the Gem Fair this weekend. However, once they’re gone, I’ll be able to get back to focusing on reading- until I have to leave for my own plans this afternoon.

Hour 5 was significantly more successful than I expected it to be. My expected interruption from Michelle’s best friend never materialized, so I made another huge dent in The Language of Flowers, which I will finish this hour. I may also try to squeeze my shower in this hour as well, but if not now, then next hour for sure.

As expected, I finished The Language of Flowers (which was lovely), then took a break for a shower and some grooming. Now I’m feeling refreshed and ready to start The Housekeeper and the Professor.

I’ve started The Housekeeper and the Professor, and so far I’m liking it very much. My shower and various other household activities (and blogging update) cut into my reading time for the hour, but I think this next hour will be productive. Once I get something to eat, that is.

Still reading The Housekeeper and the Professor. Not much else to say at the moment. Stella, my notoriously anti-lap cat, has decided she’d like nothing better than to be curled up on my lap. I’m not sure which progress is better- the part where she’s on my lap or the part where she came into the living room voluntarily to be here. Either way, she’s cuddly and I’m happy. I’m going to try to finish this book by the time hour 10 is up so I can start getting ready for the wedding.

Well, it had to happen eventually. Hour 9 ended up being a nap hour, so I only read a little. Usually my naps tend to come around hour 5 or, in the case of one year, hour 3. So not much reading to be done, and I know I’ll probably only read a little bit more before I have to be out the door and up the road. This will therefore be my last update until probably hour 16 or so. With that, I send you all my cheers through the middle of the event!

I am back from the wedding (which exceeded expectations), and I am ready to dive back into the readathon, at least for a few hours (don’t know if I will make it the full 24). At this point, my only real goal is to finish The Housekeeper and the Professor. If I read more than that, that’ll be great as well. Not sure how many are still awake, but I am going to do my best to power through the next few hours.

I am not going to make my goal of finishing The Housekeeper and the Professor. I started reading it again and promptly started falling asleep, so I am going to call it a night and a readathon for 2012. Good luck to those continuing through the final four hours!
